USING PRODUCER GAS.

It is Taking the Place of Natural Gas

in Muncie Factories.

MUNCIE, May 17 — Ball Bros., the fruit jar manufacturers, who have about 1,500 people on their factory pay roll in this city, have substituted fuel gas for natural gas in the green glass department.

They claim that under the present conditions of the natural gas field it is considerably cheaper to burn producer gas than to go to the expense of procuring natural gas by sinking twenty new wells or more, in a district that is likely to prove unprofitable. The Hemingray glass-works is also using producer gas in part of its factory, and other manufacturers will generally follow suit before cold weather. The iron and steel mills seem to be better equipped with natural gas than other factories.
