VICTIM OF FLAMES RELIEVED BY DEATH Mrs. Nora B. Marlow, Burned by Explosion, Suffered for 32 Hours. DAUGHTER IS RECOVERING Little Girl Who Pulled Mother from Burning House Not Badly Injured. After Thirty-two hours of suffering death relieved the pain of Mrs. Nora B. Marlow the wife of William Marlow, who was almost burned to a crisp at the little family dwelling, 1544 West Fifteenth street, Tuesday morning, at the home of her father-in-law, Joseph Marlow, corner of Ninth and Pierce streets, yesterday afternoon o clock. She was surrounded by her grief stricken family at her death. Through the terrible ordeal Mrs. Marlow displayed a fortitude and pluck that is seldom seen. Her vitality was extra ordinary. So severe were her injuries that parts of the internal organs could be seen through the blackened flesh. Mrs. Marlow died without knowing that the little home on Fifteenth street for which ishe and her husband had paid, had been nearly destroyed by the fire. The burns which proved fatal were inflicted after the explosion of a tank of gasoline while Mrs. Marlow was at work in her kitchen. She was preparing to wash a bundle of clothes and had just placed the boiler on the gasoline stove when the flames traveled to the storage can. Had it not been for the fearless act of her 12-year-old daughter, Eva, the mother would have perished in the flames. Realizing her mother's position, the little girl dragged Mrs. Marlow from the house, but not in time to prevent the flames from burning her body to a crisp.. Physicians believed Mrs. Marlow would live but a few hours but her suffering was extended for more than a day. The little girl was badly burned about the hands but her injuries are not dangerous. Mrs. Marlow is survived by a husband, two little daughters, a young son and three sisters, Mrs. Mary Harry, of Mt Summit; Miss Cora Wright, of Kennard, Ind., and Mrs. Bosa Fries, of Fairfax, Mo. The funeral will be held from the Avondale M. E. church, the Rev. J. P. Chamness officiating, Burial in Beech Grove cemetery. |
