Thomas China Co. Has Started

Lisbon, O., Dec. 17. - The Thomas China Co. started to make ware today. They have not a large force employed yet, but will put on more just as fast as the ware advances into the various departments of manufacture. They have been running their clay shops now for two weeks and have on hand in the clay cellar a large quantity of prepared clay. This department is working to full capacity and it is the intention of the management to fill the large cellar with clay, so that it will be aging, as that gives it a better quality.

Everything is working admirably in this department and the report that a great deal of difficulty was met with in starting is not true, and in most part was pure fabrication. Two kilns of saggers have been burned, and the kilns worked admirably. Mr. Keates, the manager, said he never saw kilns work finer. There is considerable fitting up to be done yet about the plant, but it will in no wise retard manufacture. They are installing an electric plant for lighting. The generator is 450 light capacity.

They have a model plant - well planned, well built and well finished throughout. They expect to have ware on the market early in January. They already have some orders on hand. They had an offer from one concern to take all of next year's output, but they preferred to go after the smaller trade, and therefore turned the offer down.

A few samples of the body they will make show a very fine quality and they are satisfied that they have the finest semi-porcelain body going.
