A statement is made by James S. Atterbury that Gillinder & Sons, of Philadelphia, the New England Glass Company, Boston, the Hemingray Glass Company of Covington, Ky., and the Depauw Plate Glass Company of New Albany, Ind., contemplate moving their works to Pittsburgh, on account of the great advantages arising from natural gas. The statement, so far as it relates to the latter company, has been denied by Geo. F. Penn, manager, and may be untrue in regard to the other firms named. Plants worth many thousands of dollars cannot be readily abandoned even for natural gas.
