The nomination by Mayor Strong of William Brookfield to be Commissioner of Public Works of New York City has stirred up quite a row in Republican circles in the Empire City. Mr. Brookfield was only recently defeated by the Platt men for re-election as chairman of the Republican City Committee, and now Mr. Platt in an open interview charges Mayor Strong with having broken faith with him.
