Mr. William Brookfield, whom Mayor Strong, of New York city, has appointed commissioner of public works, is a Jerseyman by birth, but a thorough New Yorker by training. He was born in Greenbush in 1844, but went to Brooklyn in 1862. In 1873 he removed to this city. He owns the Bushwick Glass Works. He was president of the Eastern Association of Glass Manufacturers for years, and in 1891 and 1892 president of the National Association of Glass Manufacturers.
