THE EXPOSITION. The Manufacturer's Display at the Rink a Most Creditable Affair. More than Half a Hundred of Magic Muncie's Manufacturers Have Samples of their Goods on Exhibition. A Sight Worth Going a Long Distance to See. One of the most interesting exhibitions seen in Magic Muncie since she has become famed as being one of the leading manufacturing cities of the state, is the display now being made at the Royal rink, of the products of our many and varied manufacturing enterprises. While some of our manufacturers have been unable to make a display by reason of the short time allotted in preparing the same, nevertheless nearly, if not quite fifty establishments are represented, and the exhibition is one that reflects credit on every manufacturer who has made a display of his wares. Our own people will be surprised when they visit the rink this evening, at the magnitude of the display, and our visitors will no doubt be impressed with the extent of the manufacturing industries of the Pittsburg of the west. We give herewith a brief description of some of the displays that are to be seen. The Muncie Architectural Iron works has a fine display, consisting of iron fencing, lawn chairs and settees, hitching posts, flower vases, &c. The Muncie Nail and Iron Works shows a variety of the products of their extensive establishment including nails of all sizes, muck bar, steel bar, &c. The exhibition of the Muncie Pulp Co., is an interesting one. It consists of specimens of pulp in all the various processes of manufacture, commencing with the wood from which it is made until it reaches the finished state where it appears in a large sheet, rivaling in purity and whiteness the snow of winter. One roll of pulp on exhibition weighs 700 pounds. The Muncie Novelty & Brass Co.'s display occupies the entire stage and is very attractive, comprising nickel and brass mounted display frames for show windows, pumps, paper rolls, and other novelties manufactured at their establishment in our Westside suburb. Messrs. J. H. Smith & Co., Bend Works, have a nice display of shafts, poles, rims, and all the various parts of buggies and carriages turned out at their extensive factory. The Hemingray Glass Works have a fine exhibition of the large variety of glassware made at their factory. Their display consists of lamps, bottles, fruit jars, decanters, globes, etc., etc., and is very attractive. G. W. Crozier exhibits samples of his numerous inventions, including his patent buggy top, gas regulators, etc. The Muncie Yeast factory has samples of yeast on exhibition. R. & I. Meeks & Co., have a fine display of parlor and other kinds of furniture. C. H. Wysor, Haines & Patterson show a number of samples of the products of their machine works and foundry, consisting of pulleys, cogged wheels, etc. Charles Gass has on exhibition some fine buggies, which are excellent specimens of the handicraft of the mechanics of Muncie. The Combination Manufacturing Co., show samples of the goods in their line, including step ladders, ironing tables, wash benches, etc. J. E. McKendry's exhibit consists of a bundle of heading, and while his display is not as elaborate as many others, it represents one of the important industries of our city. Other manufacturers have added to the exhibition since the forenoon, of whom we may make mention to-morrow. No one should fail to attend the exposition this evening as it furnishes a very complete idea of the magnitude of the manufacturing interests of the Pittsburg of the West. |
