Examination in St. Mark's

Schools.

The examination in St. Mark's schools closed yesterday. The advanced algebra class, in consequence of the illness of Miss Van Rensselner, was examined very searchingly by Rev. Mr. Turner, and the careful work of the teacher was shown in the proficiency of her class. The intermediate and primary classes were also fully examined in their various studies, with generally satisfactory results. In the Girl's school, Miss Hayden's arithmetic and advanced grammar classes were put through, and Miss Poxon's class in United States history rehearsed their attainment in this branch of study during the year. The showing was pronounced quite satisfactory. In the afternoon an exhibition was given in the main room in St. Mark's school, which consisted of oratorical and musical exercises by the entire school. Mrs. Hayden, the musical instructor of the school, presided at the piano, and the singing by the boys and girls was very excellent. A large number of visitors was in attendance.

This morning at 10:30 o'clock, testimonials will be presented to the six young lady pupil teachers in St. Mark's school, Judge Hemingray will deliver the presentation address. The exercises will be interspersed with music. These young ladies passed a meritorious examination a while ago, and the testimonials to be presented to them are in the form of unofficial diplomas issued by St. Mark's school certifying to their fitness to teach. Friends of the school are invited to be present on the occasion.
