The Galaxy.

The sessions of this most popular society were resumed last Saturday evening, at the residence of Bishop Tuttle, a considerable number of its old, with a goodly number of new members being present. Judge Hemingray occupied the chair and conducted the proceedings with his accustomed urbanity. This being the first meeting of the season, the following officers were elected for the ensuing term: President, Judge Hemingray; Vice-Presidents, Geo. E. Whitney, Mr. Lomon, and C. F. Smith; Secretary, R. S. Scaunel. The rest of the evening was occupied in the delivery of a capablely-rendered recitation by Mr. Lord Gilberson; a thoughtful paper on "Modern Civilization," by Rev. Mr. Prout; a charming vocal selection by Mrs. Dr. Hamilton, and a humorous reading by Rev. Mr. Kirby. The company was select and all seemed to enjoy themselves. The next meeting will be held at the residence of Dr. Hamilton, on next Saturday evening, at 7:30 o'clock. The works of Lord Byron have been selected as the topic for discussion.
