EFFECTS OF THE STORM IN THE CITY.
The appearance of the city after the storm was dismal; the streets flooded with water, and strewn with shattered shade trees, doors, window shutters, and awning posts. It presented a picture of destruction difficult to describe. It would be useless to enumerate the countless instances wherein houses were unroofed and fences blown down; and we therefore content ourselves with giving some of the principal, with as near as possible the amount of damage sustained.
The south end of Gray, Hemingray & Co.'s Glass Factory, blown in; damage $400 to $500.
Gable end of Richard Mayberry's dwelling house, corner of Third and Madison street, blown in; damage $60 or $70.
Squire Reynold's dwelling house, unroofed; damage $100.
West End Rolling Mill, foot of Scott street, blown in; damage about $300.
Roof blown off and west end wall of the Bragging [sic] Bagging factory, in the western part of the city, blown in; damage about $300.
