MINOT HOLMES

 

Minot K. Holmes, 78, apartment 104, 805 Wayne St., died unexpectedly this afternoon when stricken at a parking lot at High and Jackson streets.

Mr. Holmes was a retired industrialist, retiring in 1952 from Owens-Illinois where he had been an executive for many years.

He had been associated with the glass company and its predecessor, Hemingray Glass Co. since 1904.

In 1919, Mr. Holmes designed the basic elements of the insulator machine and contributed to the glass factory's production mechanization.

He also took part in the early glass block experiments and advanced several ideas which helped create the first hermetically sealed block in the United States.

Following his retirement, he was associated with his son, Eliot Holmes in the Holmes Electric Co.

The family home for many years was at 312 W. North. Mrs. Holmes died in 1958.

Mr. Holmes was a member of Grace Episcopal Church and Elks Lodge.

In addition to the son, he is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Janet Casey, Superior Court 2 probation officer, and four grandchildren.
