Seek to Settle Strike

At 11 Glass Plants

Representatives of the pressed and blown glass manufacturers and the AFL flint glass workers met Monday morning with a federal mediator in an effort to settle a three-day strike at 11 plants in five states. Plants idled include the Kimble Glass Company of Muncie and the Overmyer Mould Company of Winchester.

The bargaining sessions are taking place in Toledo, for pressed glass manufacturing workers, as well as for those in the container industry. Container industry unions, however, are continuing to negotiate and have not set a strike deadline.

The contracts of American Flint Glass Workers Union, numbering about 40,000 workers nationally, expired Sept. 1.
