Settle Strike

At Kimble

Agreement on contract terms in Toledo negotiations Thursday brought to an end the week-long shut down of the Kimble Glass Company here. The settlement between the AFL American Flint Glass Workers' Union and the National Association of Pressed and Blown Glassware was reached shortly before noon, according to a report from Ed Dickson, a member of the union's national executive committee who took part in the bargaining sessions.

The settlement included a 10-cent general hourly wage increase, with a variety of fringe benefits. The overall package agreed on at the Toledo negotiations was for 18 cents, including fringe benefits.

The agreement ended strikes involving some 7,000 persons in the industry. Operations were also to be resumed at the Overmyer Mold Company in Winchester as a result of the Thursday settlement.

Picket lines at Kimble were called off at noon, Dickson said, with production to be resumed as soon as possible. Approximately 400 Kimble workers were off since last Friday, in keeping with a deadline imposed by the union. The contract had expired Sept. 1.
