THE STATE VS. LARRY CAREY.

Carey’s Trial for Assault Pending Since

Morning No Verdict.

The trial of Larry Carey for assault on John Dodd on August 5, was heard today. More than 20 witnesses were subpoenaed to appear in the case, it is said that Dodd was brutally beating his wife on the night mentioned and that she called to her neighbor, Larry Carey, who resided next door, for assistance. Carey lives at 1509 East Eighth street and Dodd lives in the property adjoining on the east. Carey is said to have called to Dodd to cease treating his wife cruelly and it is further alleged that Dodd then became incensed and jumping the fence attacked Carey and other bystanders. Carey defended himself with a knife so it is said and Dodd later exhibited wounds about the head and body. Dodd has been in the hospital since the fight and for a time his condition was serious.

Carey was acquitted on the ground of self defense.
