A SERIOUS AFFRAY.

John Dodd Stabbed Several Times by

Larry Carey Sunday Evening.

The [sic] There was an exciting time Sunday evening at the homes of John Dodd and Larry Carey, in the eastern part of the city, during which Dodd was stabbed five times and severely injured.

It was during the early part of the evening when the Carey household was aroused by the cries of a woman. An investigation proved that Mrs. Dodd, who resides adjacent, was being unmercifully abused by her husband, who was assaulting her in the yard. She ran towards the Carey home, said Mr. Carey, "and appealed to me for protection. I told Dodd to desist, when he sprang into my yard and struck my daughter, and attempted to treat my wife in alike manner, when I defended them."

Carey pulled a knife from his pocket and stabbed his antagonist several times. Dodd was injured by the knife thrusts above one ear, below the heart and three other places about his body. Carey gave himself up, coming to police court where he claimed that what he had done was in self defense.

A plain charge of assault and battery was placed against him and he went to jail, stating that he did not care to get out on bond. He was released on $500 bond today and will have a hearing Thursday morning at 9 o'clock. He is a well known glass worker, as is Dodd. The latter's condition was improved this afternoon, and the attending physicians believe that he will recover.
