DODD IS IMPROVING.

Remains in Whitney Hospital but Wounds

are Healing.

John Dodd's condition is improved this morning, so the hospital authorities state. He was taken to the institution. yesterday afternoon to have an operation performed on a ruptured artery behind his left ear to stop the flow of blood. Dodd was at that time slowly bleeding to death. The artery was tied and it is now thought the man will recover. Dodd is the man who was cut by Larry Carey in a fight in Industry, August 5. Carey was acquitted on the plea of self defense.

Last evening his wife called at the police station and informed Chief Cashmore of her husband's condition which was then serious. She made an appointment to call and again informed the authorities of Dodd's condition at 8 o’clock this morning, but failed to appear.

There is much speculation as to what would be done with Carey should Dodd’s injuries yet prove fatal. Prosecutor White and Chief Cashmore had a conference over the subject last night. The former official said: "I believe there is no grand jury under the sun that would indict Carey for murder should Dodd not recover. It has been clearly proven that the cutting was done in self defense". Chief Cashmore said he doubted if Carey could even be arrested.

Dodd was resting easily this afternoon. Although he is not out of danger it is now thought he will recover,
