RETURNED TO THE HOSPITAL

A Wounded Artery in John Dodd’s

Head Gives Way.

Wound Hasn't Healed and Another Operation

was Necessary Carey Dodd

Fight is Recalled.

John Dodd, who was cut five times with a knife in a fight in Industry Sunday, August 5, and remained in the hospital in a serious condition for several days, was taken back to the hospital this afternoon in a weakened condition from loss of blood. The knife used in the fight severed one of the arteries in the neck back of the left ear. The coats of the artery failed to heal and the member burst today and blood spurted out of the wound in dangerous quantities. Three physicians were called in consultation at the hospital thus afternoon and decided that an operation would have to be performed immediately to save Dodd's life. The artery was tied and the flow of blood stopped with difficulty. One physician stated at 3 o'clock that Dodd's condition is serious but it is believed the man's life will be saved.

Larry Carey, Dodd's assailant, was acquitted in police court Monday on the charge of assault and battery on Dodd. The court held that the cutting was done in self defense.
